He paid it!
Isaiah 1:18 Though your sins are like scarlet, they can be white as snow. Though your sins are deep red, they can be white like wool.
As we are traveling through Holy Week and culminating in the Resurrection on Easter Sunday, it is hard to wrap our minds around the profound forgiveness of Jesus in His sacrifice. Max Lucado writes in Grace for the Moment when Jesus told us to pray for forgiveness of our trespasses as we forgive our own trespassers, He knew who would be the one to pay the debt. As He would hang on the cross he would say, “It is finished”…… the trespass or debt is paid! There are some facts that will never change. One fact is that you (and me) are forgiven. If you are in Christ, when He sees you, your sins are covered - He doesn’t see them. He sees you better than you see yourself. And that is a glorious fact of your life.
We go through life often indifferent to what is happening to us spiritually. Remembering how our sins were forgiven by such an act of cruelty toward an innocent man, Jesus, the Son of God is worth remembering each day of our lives. Very few of us have ever know this kind of humiliation and suffering. We are indeed a blessed people. He is Risen! He is Risen indeed!
