Prayer
Many people ask how to pray. Many people refrain from coming to the church community due to embarrassment, thinking they are too sinful, too regretful. Many people have holes in their hearts and try to fill the empty space with stuff, alcohol, food, drugs, you name it and still feel that hole in the heart. For the next few Messengers, I would like to offer some thoughts on prayer, where we are in our lives, and what we might do to mend the “holes”, find belonging and community, and know that no sin is ever irredeemable.
Prayers are just conversations with God or your higher Being. It might just be as simple as, “Help me, God or help me, Jesus.” It might even start with, “Hey God, are you up there and can we talk?” Jesus taught his disciples to pray the Lord’s Prayer when they asked for prayer instruction. That little prayer has everything you need. Here is another prayer to try, written by Marianne Williamson:
Dear God, I feel that I have wasted my life, thrown away my resources, taken too much time to gather my strengths. Now, dear God, I feel it is too late for me. My age, my weaknesses, the lies and betrayals of time gone by, all make me seem like a lesser talent. And only You, dear God, know the love in my heart and how much I want to serve, how much I have to give. I need a miracle, a new beginning which only You can give me. Please, dear God, I give my life to You. Please bring together my talents. Please increase my gifts and use them for Your purposes. I surrender my future. Make it unlike my past. Thank You very much. Amen
Be a blessing this week and take time to pray.
Join us on Sunday at 10:45 for worship and gathering in fellowship. All are welcome!
