Gratitude

Blessing prayers are a part of every disciple of Jesus, for they were part of His daily prayer life. We read throughout the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) of Jesus prayer life. He always gave thanks for the food of the daily meals. I must admit, I am remiss in giving thanks in prayer for all that I have, even in the face of today with job loss and COVID. Instead of a Bible verse this week, I will provide a prayer. Use it as it serves you and remember God’s blessings in your life.

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for this gift of a new day filled with possibilities

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude, O God,
for this gift of a hot shower that refreshes me

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for the gift of this glass of wine and its taste of sun, grape, and earth

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for the gift of music that delights my ear, my heart, and my soul

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for the ability to read and for the wonder of words that speak to my heart

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for the expression of love that I have just shared

I lift up my heart to you in gratitude
for the present pain I feel, which frames with greater joy the pleasures of my life

May your heart and life be filled with God’s love and mercy this week.
